Here it is!
The secret is out!! I am a DOULA!!
Some of you may be super excited for me because you know this is a big passion of mine or you may be like, “What the heck is a doula!?”
A doula is someone who is trained to assist women and their partners (if in attendance) with emotional, physical and educational support before and during childbirth and provide support to the family after the baby is born. The purpose of a doula is to help the birthing mother have a safe, memorable and empowering birthing experience! In simpler terms, a doula is kinda like a birthing coach.
I’ve been wanting to do this for YEARS! I first heard of a doula when I was nineteen years old. A friend of mine was pregnant and hired a doula for herself. I thought it was such a beautiful and rewarding job to have, to help families welcome a new family member into the world. When I got pregnant I knew I wanted a doula, but at the time we couldn’t afford one. But God sent an angel! Haha. He sent me my amazing doula Kasey. She walked me through everything and when the time came for me to have Ella, she was a lifesaver. She was also my doula when I had Maddox and again she was a total lifesaver. I know my labor and delivery experience would have looked totally different if I didn’t have her. I am FOREVER grateful for her! She is the main person that inspired me to pursue this job.
I had two very different birthing experiences with my kids but they were both amazing. I know for a fact it was because my doula, Kasey, played a big part in that. After hearing other people’s birth stories, I realized that my amazing experience wasn’t “normal”. A majority of the stories I heard, the parents were traumatized or felt guilty for not having the birth they wanted. When I heard these stories I would feel sad and frustrated that no one was there to walk them through it, no one was there to help guide them or reassure them. My heart burned for those families that didn’t have a good experience.
Having a child is a beautiful, rewarding gift and I believe the act of bringing a baby into the world should match it. I’m not saying it’s going to be perfect, smooth sailing, or going to go according to plan every single time, but you shouldn’t have to go through it alone. This has been a dream of mine to help mothers. I have experienced two amazing births through the help of a doula and I only hope I can help other mothers have the same amazing experience I had.
This is my Dream Project, the one I have been raving about for the last two weeks. My doula BUSINESS will help FAMILIES, but more specifically help MOTHERS through HEALTH AND WELLNESS to help make the labor and the arrival of their new BABY a better experience!
Thank you for joining me on this journey of uncovering my Dream Project. But it’s not over, my dream project of becoming a doula is just the beginning. I will continue to take you on this journey every other week through my blogs. I will continue to talk about my doula business, my family, my faith, and just about everything under the sun. I have big plans on where I would like to take this business and blog. Come back Thursday for a new blog as I continue on this new journey. Meanwhile check out the rest of my website to get more information on my new doula endeavor.
