My Story: Christmas gone WRONG!

by | Dec 13, 2018

In the spirit of Christmas, I thought I would tell you a Christmas tradition that Micah and I do as a family since we have been married and how one of the times we did it, it went HORRIBLY WRONG! Guys, it was so bad, it still gives me nightmares. I can laugh about it and poke fun at it now but it still stings a little.

Since our families live in Maryland and North Carolina we rotate where we spend the holidays. Either way, we have to fly to go home and Micah and I don’t want to bring our gifts to each other on the trip and pay for more travel bags. So we decided to have our own Christmas 2-3 days before we left for the holidays. It’s so much fun, we all put on our Christmas PJs, I make hot chocolate, we put a Christmas-y movie on to play in the background, we open presents and a new tradition we added last year is to go see Christmas lights in our Christmas PJs.

This was last years Christmas PJs. The one year anniversary of “Christmas Gone Wrong!”! Haha!

Two years ago it went wrong. Ella wasn’t feeling well that day she had already thrown up 3 times. It all happened during the day and it had been a while since the last time she threw up and she was acting like her normal self again. So The Steger Christmas was still on! We had a couple people join us, and that’s when it all happened…

Micah was making hot chocolate in the kitchen and the rest of us were hanging out and watching a Christmas movie. Ella kept saying she wanted to cuddle which was so unlike her but I wasn’t going to complain. Within minutes of her sitting on my lap,aFRGCVXZ I could see and hear her start to gag. Instinctively I cupped my hands and yelled for Micah to help me. As soon as he turns to see what was going on, Ella projectile vomited EVERYWHERE! Where was Micah? He was still in the kitchen with his mouth on the floor. I yelled at him again to help and Ella projectile vomited AGAIN! Micah just kept going back and worth, turning in circles and saying “I don’t know what to do. What do I do!?” At this point, Ella vomited AGAIN and I just yelled for Micah telling him to bring anything to put the vomit in and bring something to help clean up. Do you know what Micah does? He brings me ONE paper towel. My hands are overflowing with vomit, it’s EVERYWHERE. The next thing he does is grab my Sonic drink (it was still full) he threw it out the window and used the cup to put the vomit that I caught in it. He tried. And our guests? They were just sitting on the couch watching everything. Haha. I didn’t expect them to do anything since they were our guests so that wasn’t a big deal. But Micah on the other hand….

After Ella stopped throwing up we took her to the bathroom to give her a bath. We asked our guests to watch the hot chocolate (we were making Abuelita Hot Chocolate on the stove) and serve it if it was ready, while we cleaned Ella up. Well, the hot chocolate ended up overflowing and our guests were having a hard time cleaning it up and serving it. Haha!

FINALLY, Ella was clean and acting like her normal self again, the kitchen was clean and the hot chocolate was served! When it was time to open presents we couldn’t believe that all just happened. We laughed but at the same time got grossed out about what just happened. But at the end of the night, we all had a great time and we have some… entertaining stories to tell.

She went completely back to normal! These were the only pictures I took that night. It was that chaotic. Haha!

She was back to her girly fun self! After everything was said and done we had a great time!

The whole reason why I wanted to share this story with you is not only to make you laugh but also to show things can go wrong but as long as you refocus and remember the purpose, you can still have a great time. Especially this time of the year, a lot of people dread it because of family, stress over finances and just stress of the unknown. A lot of the time we lose sight of what’s important and it turns into a snowball of anger, sadness, and loneliness. My daughter threw up EVERYWHERE, we had guests over, our kitchen was turned upside down, I could have asked our guests to leave and went to our room and cried over how embarrassed and frustrated I was that everything I did to get ready for our Christmas went to crap. Silly example, but when I refocused and remembered that the night was supposed to be fun, about family, friends, and Jesus it did turn out to be so much fun! I hope you guys have an amazing and enjoyable Christmas with family and friends that’s what is all about, and JESUS!

I will not be posting the next two weeks while I spend time in Maryland and North Carolina with family. It will be weird not having to write but I look forward to being present with my family. I hope you all have a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
