My unique beauty tips

Growing up I was surrounded by makeup; my mom sold MaryKay and Avon so there were always free samples around. I loved to try new things and explore different brands. Though once I graduated high school I didn’t keep up with all things beauty and makeup. Life happened and I just had a shift in priorities, I prefered to put money towards food rather than makeup. I still loved all things related to beauty and makeup, but at the time I didn’t want to invest in it. However, about a year ago I made a commitment that I would invest in all things beauty again. I already invest a lot towards what goes inside my body and I figured I should do the same for the outside. I did a lot of research and went through many trial-and-errors and ended up finding some of my favorite beauty secrets! These might be a little out of the norm and take a few extra steps in your routine, but you should still give them a try, I swear by them!

Facial Roller

This is a skin-care tool that will cool, tighten, and depuff your face in minutes. Regular massaging with this roller will help to drain puffiness, and help smooth fine lines and wrinkles. I use a Jade Crystal Facial Roller, the crystal healing in the Jade has been used for centuries for smooth, youthful-looking skin. It provides many healing and anti-aging benefits such as:

  • Helps stimulate collagen which helps to improve elasticity of the skin
  • Reduces appearance of puffiness and wrinkles
  • Aids in lymphatic drainage
  • Helps to eliminate toxins in your skin
  • Tightens pores, since the jade remains cold even when in direct contact with the skin

IT WORK, IT WORKS, IT WORKS! I use this first thing in the morning before I put on makeup and my makeup just glides on. Long-term I have noticed my skin being firmer and bouncier. I noticed fine lines on my forehead are not as noticeable anymore. You can also put the roller in the refrigerator or on ice to help with inflammation reduction. I have also noticed it helped reduce my dark undereye area. I got my Jade roller at Ulta, it’s a little on the pricey side ($32) but I am so glad I invested in it!

Eye Cream

Here’s my secret hack to using eye cream: put it under your eyes and all the way down to your smile lines. So most of your cheek will be covered in eye cream. This may sound weird, but since that area of my face is normally dry and I have smile lines, I thought, well if it works for my under eye wrinkles why wouldn’t work for my smile lines? So I tried it and it’s working! I had to do test trials to make sure it didn’t clog my pore since it was a thicker lotion but I’ve been doing it for a couple of months now and it doesn’t clog up my pores. I would think this would work with any eye cream.

The eye cream that I use is Mario Badescu Glycolic Eye Cream it has Glycolic acid which helps soften the look of fine lines, wrinkles, and discoloration to keep the under-eye area smooth and even. If you have issues with puffiness or discoloration under the eye you could try putting your eye cream on the spots of your faces that have the same issues. It’s been working for me, I hope it can work for you too!

Facial Brush

Using a facial brush isn’t really unique but I have notice that A LOT of people don’t use them. I started using a facial brush and noticed a world of difference! The vibrating head cleans and exfoliates the skin, dislodging more makeup and dirt than your hands or a washcloth ever could. If you start using it and notice you’re breaking out, don’t worry, it’s completely normal. Allure Magazine did a segment on facial brushes and interviewed dermatologist Jason Emer about it and he said, “At the beginning, your skin might flare, probably within the first two weeks. The dead skin cells that are being sloughed off plug up your pores. But as your skin gets used to it, your pores become more open and there will be fewer dead skin cells to exfoliate, so you’ll be less likely to have breakouts.” So just give it a couple of weeks and your skin will get used to it.

The queen of all facial brushes is the Clarisonic but it’s pretty expensive ($200+) but if you’re looking for a more affordable option, I use the ProX by OLAY Advanced Cleansing Systems and it’s $37.49- I got my facial brush for Christmas last year and my skin has never been more thankful!
